Welcome to the Practicum of Graphic Design & Illustration Class Page for 2020 - 2021

Practicum of Graphic Design & Illustration is a year long, two credit elective course. The practicum course is a Work Based Learning (WBL) course involving either paid or unpaid capstone experience for students participating in a coherent sequence of career and technical education courses in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster. 

Students enrolled in the Practicum course must meet and continue to meet all of the following requirements for the entire school year;

  • At least 16 years of age.

  • Classified as an 11th or 12th grade student.

  • On track for graduation.

  • Has successfully completed the required prerequisite course(s).

  • Possesses the knowledge, skills, behavioral qualities, and abilities required for successful employment.

  • Is physically and mentally capable of performing the “essential functions” of the desired work-based experience.

  • Student enrollment in a specific practicum should take into account career interests, aptitudes, and goals.

  • 10 hours of work-based instruction per week (average) is required to award 2 credits.

  • All students participating in paid work-based instruction must be placed and in training within 15 days of enrollment.

What is Work Based Learning (WBL) - Work-Based Learning is a structured component of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum that integrates classroom instruction with productive, progressive, supervised, work-based experiences/apprenticeships (Paid) and internships (Unpaid), related to students’ career objectives.  Content is planned for students through a cooperative arrangement between the school and employer as a component of work-based learning.

Resume

The purpose of the resume is get the applicant an interview. Resumes for any student are important, but for a creative it is another chance to showcase their design skills and promote their personal brand. Student will need to design an creative and effective resume as well as practice their interview skills.

Personal Portfolio

Student will need to set up a Behance Portfolio as part of Practicum. This portfolio will be used to showcase student work during the practicum

National Portfolio Day(s) 2020

NPD is a free opportunity to meet with art/design school representatives from all over the country in one location.
